Hebrews 10:19-25
Vital connection between Gospel and Church
We were never meant to be solitary Christians.
How do we help people to be committed to the local church?
Who are church hoppers
-We are consumer minded, looking for a better deal.
-Independence, they don't want the accountability.
-Critical, evaluating everything superficial, always comparing, never satisfied.
--They are still people who need help, and guidance, who Christ died for.
Find out why
Pastors are called to shepherding, not marketing.
If your motivation is seeker oriented, getting numbers, you will cater to their desires, and propagate the problem, encouraging the consumer mindset.
What truths do we need to teach?
1. Biblical theology, God's purpose.
2. Systematic theology of the Church.
3. Necessity of local church in spiritual growth. We need other people to show us our sins.
4. Necessity of local church in worship.
5. Necessity of church in mission. Evangelism works best in the context of community.
What are key teaching moments for church hoppers?
1. Are we reminding people of the importance of the church?
2. Are we clear on expectations of members?
3. Importance of attendance.
4. Preparing them to leave if it must happen.
5. What is my personal example teaching?
