My convoluted notes:
2nd Timothy 3:1-9
Starts with a general statement, and then works toward a specifically perditious group, ending with statement of hope.
Gives commands to know something and to avoid some things.
In the last days, there will be difficult times.
Last days started at Christ's advent.
We don't have time for recreational preaching. We live in violent, fierce times, because of the people that populate the time we live in.
The root of all is our desire to be the center, gratifying the self above all.
The tragedy is that this permeates professed Christians. They are practical atheists. Don't emphasize the external at the expense of the internal.
The power is in the Gospel, not us, in his change, his ride. Power is not in performance, or passion, emotive is not dynamite.
Journalism and preaching has become commentary, opinion, not truth.
People will prey on the weak in faith, those who want to find the truth, but never apply it, thinking exposure is the same as experience. Those who have heard just enough Gospel to never receive it all. ***condemnation of Right wing?***
V. 9 Folly will be obvious to all, aside from those God helps. Ultimately evil will be exposed.
What the text taught us is that even though evil will be temporarily successful, it has to ultimately fail, as the folly will be exposed.
Application -
Act like you are on the winning side.
Preach the truth, allow the spirit to empower you.
Stop acting like God is not in control.
Preach for results, not response.
